Alan Maley was an extremely talented English artist. Born in 1935, Alan Maley demonstrated significant artistic proficiency from a young age and attended Regiate Art College during his teenage years. Upon graduation, he got involved in the movie business as a scenery artist. After five years of long and hard work, Alan was stricken with illness and took a considerable amount of time off. Upon returning to the movie business, he found himself unable to work as a scenery artist as it was too physically demanding. Instead he worked as a matte artist. This profession would bring him to America, where he would come to work on a number of high profile films, even earning himself an Academy Award for his visual effects work.

Even though Alan Maley was so busily involved in the movie industry, he still found time to work on his own paintings. Maley’s interest in the 19^th century world and art styles are quite clear and present within his works. Alan Maley masterfully imbues his paintings with real-life characters and events into historic locations, creating truly fascinating vignettes of people and places in a more simple and elegant time. Alan Maley died in 1995, at the age of 64.
