Born on August 23^rd, 1956, Niagara Detroit did not originally aspire to be a successful visual artist. While attending University of Michigan for fine art in the 1970’s, Niagara Detroit became immersed in the music scene, fronting a number of punk rock bands. Utilizing her skill in drawing and visual art,Niagara would design album and promotional artwork for her various bands, as well as some others in her scene. Combining her talent with pop-art sensibilities, Niagara Detroit began to ardently practice visual art in coming years, and by the early 1990’s she was setting up small exhibits of her work at local galleries, to considerable local praise.

Niagara Detroit came to develop a universe of shady and shady, unscrupulous yet decidedly feminine characters, most notably “The Niagara Girl”, a booze swilling, gun toting bad-girl. These bold countenances of femme-fatales share a kindred spirit with pop-culture icons like Thelma and Louise and 1950’s film noir icons like Bette Davis and Jane Greer. Today, Niagara Detroit still actively paints and is still involved in her original passion, rock music.
