1484 or 1485 It is thought Baldung was born at Schwäbisch Gmünd in Swabia.
1503 Baldung is a member of Dürer’s workshop in Nuremberg. His nickname – Grien – seems to have dated from this period perhaps denoting his favourite colour.
1504 He produces designs for stained-glass windows at three Nuremberg churches.
1505 When Dürer leaves Nuremberg for his second visit to Italy, he leaves his workshop in Baldung’s care.
1507 Baldung moves to Halle where he has received two substantial commissions.
1509 Baldung settles in Strasbourg.
1510 Baldung marries and joins the artists guild. He becomes fascinated by the subject of witches and produces many drawing and woodcuts on this theme from this date.
1512 Baldung receives a prestigious commission from the cathedral at Freiburg im Breisgau for a folding altarpiece comprising 11 monumental paintings.
1517 Baldung returns to Strasbourg
1545 Dies in Strasbourg
